Being a teacher is expensive!! This morning Staples was having “Teacher Appreciation Day”. What is that, you may ask? Basically you get a little bag with a few random school supplies in it and a coupon for $10 off a $50 purchase. It was a bit disappointing, but a discount is a discount, so I can’t complain. I woke up early this morning and took the 15 block walk to the Staples near my apartment to be sure I got one of the bags since only the first 100 teachers get one.
After grabbing all the things I needed… well, not ALL but a good start… I began my trek home with a backpack, sling bag, and a couple more bags full of supplies. About halfway through the stroll all those bags were starting to get heavy, and I was getting a little tired. Then I started thinking… I wonder how much all of this crap weighs! Sheesh… the things I do for my students! ha ha…
So, when I got home I hopped on the scale to see how much it all weighed. Interestingly enough, when I looked down at the scale it read just about the same weight as I was when I started with Weight Watchers a few months back. That’s nearly 40 lb worth of school supplies! And then it hit me… While I’ve been seeing my weight go down, I really haven’t actually felt like I’ve lost much of anything. Walking around with all of that extra weight in school supplies today, though, made me realize that I’ve really come a pretty long way. It’s crazy to think that I was lugging around that much weight all-day, every-day for a very long time!
A bit of a silver lining to dropping so much of my own money on supplies for school is always welcome. :)
